LONDON � Pilgrims and protesters are greeting Pope Benedict XVI on the second day of his state visit to Britain.
The pontiff is meeting Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, head of the Anglican Communion, in a display of unity between the divided Christian churches. He also will address British lawmakers in Parliament's medieval Westminster Hall.
The pope's visit has divided opinion in officially Protestant, highly secular Britain. The trip has been overshadowed by disgust over the clerical sex abuse scandal and opposition from secularists.
About 30 protesters gathered Friday outside a college in the suburb of Twickenham, where the pope was to address students and open a sports center. Some held inflated condoms, others posters reading "condoms are not crimes."
