Missile strike kills 4 militants in NW Pakistan (AP)

MIR ALI, Pakistan Intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed four alleged militants in northwestern Pakistan.

They say three missiles struck a vehicle in a village in Datta Khel in the North Waziristan tribal area that is under effective militant control.

The two intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk on the record to the media.

The targeted area is home to Islamist groups focused on attacking NATO troops across the border in Afghanistan.

The strike was the 17th suspected U.S. missile assault this month in Pakistani tribal regions, the most intense barrage since they began in 2004.

MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) Gunmen opened fire on worshippers inside a mosque in eastern Pakistan on Saturday, killing two people, police said.

Senior police official Babar Bakhat Qureshi said seven others were wounded in the attack in the city of Bahawalpore.

He says the motive behind the attack on the Sunni mosque was not immediately clear.

Pakistan has a history of sectarian violence often involving Sunni extremists targeting minority Shiite Muslims. But attacks on Sunni mosques are also common.

Bahawalpore is about 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of Multan, a main city in eastern Pakistan.
